Significant as it is, Joe Paterno’s Penn State football portfolio offers but a glimpse of his dedication to others. With the same sense of purpose and commitment that he demonstrates on the field, he has proved that winning and education are both achievable goals. Paterno has supported numerous organizations such as Pennsylvania Special Olympics, the Charcot Marie Tooth Foundation and Penn State, with funds for scholarships, faculty positions, the Paterno Libraries Endowment and the expansion of the University Libraries. In 1992, Nike Inc. honored his commitment to youth and education by naming its Child Development Center at its Beaverton, Oregon campus in his honor.
